I joined Welsh Water in 2003 as part of my Business Studies degree and spent a year working in different areas of the finance department. During this time I was able to apply the knowledge learnt in university to real life situations and develop my skills further, this really benefited my final year studies.
Once I had completed my degree I was fortunate to be offered a permanent job with Welsh Water working in their finance department as Operating Cost Accounts Assistant. I thoroughly enjoyed my year out with the company and did not hesitate when I given the opportunity to return.
Since re-joining the company, I have been studying to become an Accountant and I sit my final exams in June. Welsh Water has been fully supportive in my studies offering advice and guidance when needed.
My main area of business is…
My main area of business is finance however controlling the operating cost budget means that I interact with managers from all areas of the business. I have also been given the opportunity to develop into other areas such as Business Assurance where I have carried out small Internal Audits and ICT/ITEC where I have tasked with monitoring capital project budgets.
My future with Welsh Water…
I thoroughly enjoy working for Welsh Water, they have provided me with an excellent platform on which to develop my career and I have gained invaluable experience whilst working for them. My main aim is to gain my ACCA qualification which I hope I can use to progress further within the organisation.
The best part of my job is…
The best part of my job is the feeling that I am making a difference, working closely with others to achieve a common goal and the feeling of satisfaction when the task is complete.
Social life at Welsh Water is…
Brilliant! Everyone who works for Welsh Water is kind and friendly and I have made a lot of good friends over the last few years that I socialise with on a regular basis. In addition to that there are various social events that the company organises every year. Ones not to be missed!
